Cutech has successfully carried out a Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) project of Drill Pipes in Singapore. Phased ultrasonic testing of oil drilling pipes was carried out to detect the corrosion on the ID of the 6inch Pipe. The total length of the pipe was 9 meters that required 23 sets of scanning to be performed with two Phased Array probes of 64 elements. Single group sectorial scan was used for the inspection, with each scan covering a distance of 300mm along the length of the pipe.
The probes were connected to the chain scanner wherein the Olympus Omniscan MX2 was used in this inspection task. Accurate sizing of the pipe was determined by means of 100% parent material inspection and the Phased array technique was used for detection. The project results were successful and we are pleased to have provided our client with safe & quality service.
“When compared to conventional NDT techniques, PAUT is certainly
a faster and more accurate means of recording data for future
referencing.”
